Day 52 - Saturday, 5 March - Perth

We are in Perth since noon, the room is nice, the matress is thick and the sheets are white and freshly ironed.   Quiet a pleasant change from the tent.

Yesterday, Friday, the trafic was tense and we stopped at a campsite in Midland, around 50 kms from Perth.

A good spot, at the bank of a dry river, on a lawn with only few neighbours.    But so many more mosquitos.  I am covered with bites, still itching.

The idea of arriving early in Perth was to have time to visit "Sculptures at the Sea", on the Cottesloe Beach.

We took a "Family Rider" with which we could travel both of us with train and bus within Perth and suburbs for 24 hours.  For 12,50 $AU - first good buy in Australia.

Many will remember "The Sculptures" from Aarhus (DK) where they were exposed on the beautiful Marselisborg Strand.

Well, in Cottesloe it was quite different.   The beach or bay is equally beatiful with clear green water and quite a surf, but is was just like a usual holiday beach.  Sometimes one could be mistaken between a beautiful girl sunbathing and a piece of art.

People everywhere between the "Pieces", as they call them.  Some of them have also been in Aarhus.

We met an older couple, who had accompanied the very first expo in Aarhus.   They gave us the impression that it will not be repeated in the future.

An hour or so after our arrival, an alarm went on and everybody had to come ashore.  The rescuer speedboats raced up and down along the beach.

Shark alarm !   Thereafter nobody swam any longer.

Walking back to the station, we passed by the golf course where we talked to a group of very pleasant elder men on a foresome.  "Dinner in the Club tonight - a nice way to spend a Saturday", he said the one who came out here, from the UK, 50 years ago.

We had supper down Williams Street and slept for a few hours before Hans and Inga Spedsbjerg arrived, around 1 am.

.... and we shares a. bottle of cool white wine from the Riseborough winery jear Gingin.
